Launch events for new XR devices that will enable the next-generation metaverse are scheduled for October. Global IT companies are expected to release new products in earnest from 2022, which should benefit related global parts makers.

New XR device product launch events begin in October

Events related to the launch of new extended reality (XR) devices that will enable a true metaverse expressed through immersive Internet beyond the existing two-dimensional metaverse will be held from October. In particular, global IT companies such as Apple, Facebook (Oculus), Microsoft, and Sony PlayStation are set to launch related new products in 2022, which should benefit global XR-related companies.

We note that HTC launched a low-end VR device (Vive Flow) on Oct 14, Varjo will release a new cutting-edge VR product on Oct 21, and Facebook will hold Facebook Connect, the world’s largest metaverse conference, on Oct 28.

In particular, Facebook recently released a teaser image of its next-generation VR devices. Considering that the Oculus Quest 2 was unveiled at the 2020 event, it is possible that at this event, Facebook will unveil its next-generation Oculus Quest VR device.

Global XR-related component beneficiaries

Domestic and overseas XR-related parts makers are expected to benefit. In particular, global suppliers for each major component for the new Oculus device should prosper, including AP (Qualcomm), audio/device assembly (Goertek), and camera-related component (Sunny Optical, LG Innotek, Genius Electronics, Newplex) makers.

In the case of Apple, it is not known which parts makers the firm will use, but we believe that existing parts makers are highly likely to win supply contracts. Such parts makers include LG Innotek (3D Sensing), Luxshare Precision (device assembly), Genius Electronic (VR lens), Cowell (camera module), and Derkwoo Electronics (optical module parts).
