Series of Recalls

Hyundai Motors is recalling about 43,000 units of its Genesis and Equus models in the U.S. for defects in brake lights.

According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Dec. 10, the subjects for recall are Genesis models manufactured from April 30, 2008 to Nov. 21, 2010, and Equus models manufactured from July 31, 2010 to Nov. 21, 2010.

Brake lights of the recalled vehicles might not work properly while driving. If brake lights don't work properly, it could increase the risk of a rear-end crash, since a following vehicle can't recognize whether or not the car ahead is slowing or stopping.

An official from Hyundai Motors said, “The recall was decided after consumer complaints submitted to NHTSA last October,” adding, “This recall is only subject to vehicles sold in the U.S.”

Last month, Hyundai Motors also started recalling 15,000 Veracruz models sold in China. According to the Chinese General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ), 15,373 Veracruz models manufactured between Jan. 8, 2007 and Mar. 12, 2013 were recalled. Chinese officials explained that the model was recalled due to fuel leakage possibilities and engine problems.
