Controversy Ending

Samsung Electronics has decided to keep the medical device business. The business unit was not affected by its restructuring, which was implemented on Dec. 10.

Previously, industry analysts predicted that the tech giant would merge the medical device business, which is under the consumer electronics division, with Samsung Medison. “We are currently considering whether to merge the business unit with Samsung Medison, but we haven't decided it yet,” said Samsung in a statement released in September.

In 2011, Samsung acquired medical device start-up Medison, buying a 68.54 percent stake in the company. Prior to the acquisition, Samsung created a medical device business team, which was promoted to the medical device unit in late 2012.

Cho Soo-in, president of the medical device unit, is also the head of Samsung Medison.
