Pranav Mistry, manager at Samsung Electronics’ research institute located in Silicon Valley, was promoted to a managing director position on Dec. 4. Such a promotion of a non-Korean at the age of 33 is almost unprecedented in the whole of Samsung Group.

Mr. Pranav Mistry from MIT Media Lab is one of 35 young scientists of the future picked by MIT Technology Review. He has distinguished himself in the development of innovative products such as virtual reality gear. He studied computer engineering at Gujarat University until 2003 and joined the Indian branch of Microsoft the following year. He flew to the United States in 2007 and began to work on SixthSense technology as an MIT student. He made his name with a presentation of the technology at TED.

Also, he suggested how to make the Galaxy Gear better and developed a camera for omni-directional 3D imaging, along with a number of innovative user experiences.

Last month, he introduced the audience to Project Beyond, which is a small flying disk equipped with a camera, at the Samsung Developer Conference in San Francisco.
