Jumping on Hydrogen Bandwagon

Hyosung Group vice chairman Cho Hyun-sang (third from the left) joins chairmen of Korea’s top business groups to resolve cooperation in the hydrogen industry at the Hydrogen Mobility+Show event.

Hyosung Group will concentrate its capabilities on future energy businesses, including hydrogen.

Cho Hyun-sang, the group’s vice chairman, attended the inaugural meeting of the Korea H2 Business Summit at KINTEX, Goyang near Seoul, on Sept. 8. "Hyosung is involved in the whole range of a hydrogen ecosystem, such as hydrogen production, supply, storage and utilization,” Cho said. “We will expand R&D investment in future energy materials and parts businesses."

Hyosung presented 3D images and exhibition models at the show to introduce the era of liquefied hydrogen. In addition, it displayed fuel tanks for hydrogen vehicles using carbon fibers and models of wind power generators, which are key facilities for green hydrogen production.

Hyosung announced in June that it will build a 13,000-ton liquefied hydrogen plant on the premises of its Yongyeon plant in Ulsan, Korea by 2023. It also laid out a plan to develop green hydrogen production technology using eco-friendly energy such as blue hydrogen, wind power, and solar power through Carbon Capture, Utilization, And Storage (CCUS).
