ZKW's plant in Silao, Mexico

Austria's ZKW, an automotive lighting equipment subsidiary of LG Electronics, announced on Sept. 2 that it will expand its production lines in Mexico.

ZKW's plant in Silao, Mexico, has been manufacturing premium lighting systems since 2016. This time, it will more than double the plant site from 14,000 square meters to 35,000 square meters.

ZKW also said it will hire an additional 600 new workers at its plant in Mexico, increasing its workforce to 1,600 workers.

ZKW's Mexican plant is producing headlamps for BMW, Ford Lincoln, Freightliner, General Motors, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo. The expansion is expected to allow the plant to produce two million units per year.

LG Electronics acquired ZKW in 2018. The Austrian company had the largest ever order backlog as of early 2021 and has already secured an order intake enough for the next three years. Based on this, it is aiming to post the biggest-ever sales in its history in 2022.
