Exceeds 3 Tril. Won in H1

Domestic venture investment topped 3 trillion won in the first half of this year.

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on July 28 that domestic venture investment totaled 3,073 billion won in the first half of this year, up 85.6 percent from a year ago. It is a record high half-year figure and equivalent to 71.4 percent of the figure recorded last year.

The investment showed a rapid increase in the ICT service, logistics service, and biotech and healthcare sectors in particular, which has to do with the ongoing spread of COVID-19.

Specifically, the investment in the ICT service sector jumped 93 percent year on year to 795.3 billion won and that in the logistics service sector surged 145.8 percent to 645.7 billion won. In biotech and healthcare, it increased 87.1 percent to 806.6 billion won. The amount of increase in the three sectors accounted for 80.5 percent of the total increase.

In the first half, domestic venture investment in non-face-to-face industries increased 93.7 percent to 1,459.6 billion won. In addition, a total of 61 companies attracted a venture investment of at least 10 billion won each and venture funds increased 130.7 percent year on year to 2,743.3 billion won.
