Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction (DHIC) announced on July 27 that it has signed an agreement with Korea Western Power on development and commercialization of a next-generation eco-friendly hydrogen turbine.

An agreement signing ceremony was held at DHIC’s main office in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province, on July 27 with the attendance of DHIC president Jung Yeon-in and Korea Western Power president Park Hyung-deok.

Under the agreement, DHIC is planning to develop hydrogen combustors and hydrogen turbines and secure technologies to mass-produce related components.

The two companies also agreed to help small and medium-sized enterprises develop technologies for hydrogen turbines and make a foray into domestic and foreign markets.

"DHIC has excellent gas turbine technology as it is the fifth company in the world to develop a gas turbine for power generation on its own," Jung said. "Based on this experience, we will make company-wide efforts to develop an eco-friendly hydrogen turbine and help the nation attain carbon neutrality."

Meanwhile, DHIC signed a contract with Korea Western Power in December 2019 to supply gas turbines to Gimpo Combined Cycle Power Plant. Tthe company is currently testing its gas turbines. In July 2020, it signed an agreement with Korea Western Power to build a next-generation Korean-style combined cycle power plant.
