Outperforms Whirlpool

LG Electronics became the No. 1 player in the global consumer electronics market in the first half of 2021.

LG Electronics became the world's No. 1 consumer electronics maker in the first half of 2021.

The company outclassed Whirlpool, its biggest competitor, by racking up 6.8 trillion won in sales in the consumer electronics sector in the second quarter.

Whirlpool said on July 22 (Korean standard time) that its second-quarter sales rose 31.7 percent on year to US$5,324 million (about 5.97 trillion won).

LG Electronics was also ahead of Whirlpool in the first quarter of the year by posting 6.078.1 billion won in sales, slightly more than Whirlpool’s 6 trillion won.

As a result, LG Electronics' sales stood at about 13.5 trillion won in the first half of 2021, exceeding Whirlpool's 11.9 trillion won.

LG Electronics has maintained its global top position in terms of operating profit since 2017, but in terms of sales, it ranked second after Whirlpool. Whirlpool outpaced LG Electronics in sales by about one trillion won in the second half of 2020 thanks to its year-end Black Friday sales in the United States.
