Korean Elected as President of ITU Board of Directors

Min Won-ki, president of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary Conference 2014, has been elected to head the ITU Board of Directors for 2015.

The three week-long ITU Plenipotentiary Conference in Busan City finished on Nov. 7. The participants held a temporary board meeting that day to elect him. He has served as the vice chairman of the union since May and coordinated the conference in Busan.

Korea had acceded to the organization in 1952. This year, Mr. Lee Jae-sup was appointed as the head of the ITU Standardization Sector.

The election of Mr. Min Won-ki at this time is expected to result in Korea’s higher policy leadership in the global information and communications technology (ICT) industry.
