The World's 5th-largest LNG Production Base

Al-Jur LNG Production Base in Kuwait

Korea Gas Corp. (KOGAS) announced on July 14 that it has launched a two-week test run before the commercial operation of Al-Jur Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Production Base in Kuwait.

The base is the world’s fifth-largest facility after LNG production bases in Incheon, Pyeongtaek and Tongyeong of Korea and Sodegaura of Japan. It has eight 220,000-kiloliter storage tanks and facilities that can deliver 22 million tons of gas annually.

The Kuwait LNG project is a mega project where many Korean companies participated, including Korean financial investment companies such as Export-Import Bank of Korea and Korea Trade Insurance Corp., a construction consortium consisting of Hyundai Engineering and Construction, Hyundai Engineering and KOGAS, and 130 small and medium-sized Korean companies.

Through the project, Korea is expected to earn US$2.3 billion in financial exports (64 percent of the total project cost of US$3.6 billion) and US$2.9 billion in plant exports, respectively, and create 2,000 decent jobs.

KOGAS is in charge of the trial operation of the base and education and training of its staff. It plans to successfully carry out the test and commercial operation using its expertise accumulated through more than 30 overseas LNG infrastructure projects.
