Fighter Jet Technologies May Have Been Stolen

Korea Aerospace Industries' intranet was hacked in May.

Korea Aerospace Industries, the developer of the KF-21 Boramae fighter jet, announced on June 30 that its intranet was hacked last month. At present, the National Intelligence Service and the police are conducting investigations.

Last month, the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering were also exposed to hacking attacks. The Defense Acquisition Program Administration held a press briefing on June 21 and announced that Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, a submarine builder, was hacked in May.

Under the circumstances, concerns are rising over the possibility of technology theft regarding fighter jets, submarines, small modular reactors, etc.

According to some in the industry, the hacking was committed by North Korea. Last year, North Korean hackers hacked South Korean pharmaceutical companies to steal data related to COVID-19 vaccines and drugs.
