SsangYong Motor Co. announced on June 1 that the company sold a total of 8,810 units in May 2021 – 4,956 units in domestic sales and 3,854 in exports.

SsangYong’s May sales jumped 101.1 percent month-on-month and 6.3 percent year-on-year as the company solved the back orders, which resulted from production suspension, by resuming operation thanks to approval of SsangYong's commercial creditors to re-supply the parts.

The company’s domestic sales fell 34.6 percent year-on-year as the production priority was to support the exports which suffered from accumulated backlog of shipments, but showed a recovery with an increase of 49.4 percent from the previous month.

In particular, sales of the New Rexton Sports series, which have received a huge popularity from the market, rose over 50 percent from the previous month. There are still 4,000 units in backlog of orders, and they lead the sales momentum in the domestic market.

SsangYong’s exports, which have steadily recovered, also jumped more than quadrupled year-on-year thanks to the popularity of the New Rexton Sports series.

The company’s May exports, exceeding 3,800 units after resuming production, recorded a five-year high since December 2016 when it posted 6,005 vehicles.

SsangYong Motor is accelerating to capture the global market by continuously releasing upgraded models such as the New Rexton Sports series in April followed by 2022 Tivoli brand.

SsangYong Motor explained, "Although we have difficulty on demand-supply issue such as a shortage of semiconductor and price hike of steel material, we will overcome the crisis and achieve the business normalization at an early stage based on our resolve to survive.”
