Twelve-fold Increase This Year
The Financial Services Commission announced that the number of customers of the four major cryptocurrency exchanges (UPbit, Bithumb, Coinone and Korbit) was 5,873,000 on May 3. “Their average investment was approximately four million won and the number of customers has increased very rapidly this year,” it said.
Specifically, the number of new customers amounted to 1,915,000 in April this year whereas it stood at 162,000 in December last year. No less than 4,247,000 persons became their customers between Jan. 1 and April 30 this year.
Their investment is increasing at a very rapid pace, too. The money deposited into the four exchanges was 3.9 trillion won in December last year but amounted to 33.2 trillion won last month.
The daily trading values at the four exchanges totaled 13.8 trillion won in March this year, when the KOSPI and KOSDAQ trading values were 15.1 trillion won and 11 trillion won, respectively.
