NPS Shareholding Falls Short of 10%

Individual investors now hold more than 10 percent of Samsung Electronics shares.

The number of Samsung Electronics common shares owned by individuals and their shareholding in the company reached 605.33 million and 10.13 percent on April 30, respectively. The latter topped 10 percent for the first time ever with the National Pension Service’s shareholding in the company falling short of 10 percent.

Individual investors’ shareholding in Samsung Electronics rose from 3.62 percent to 6.48 percent last year. Then, they increased their net purchase by 218.14 million shares for the first four months of this year to break the 10 percent mark. The shareholding was equivalent to 49,334.4 billion won on April 30.

On the other hand, the shareholding of the NPS in Samsung Electronics fell from 10.7 percent to less than 10 percent in the first quarter of this year. The NPS and other pension funds net sold more than 30 million Samsung Electronics shares last month.
