Apple and Samsung Electronics have both met unexpected hurdles.

For Apple, it is the bending controversy dubbed “bendgate.” The iPhone 6 Plus is being ridiculed for its case bending under pressure. It is an unfavorable factor at a time when the daily sales of new handsets has surged to record highs. As the controversy grew, Apple explained, “The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus meet or exceed all of our high quality standards to endure everyday, real-life use.” The company added, “They also feature stainless steel and titanium inserts to reinforce high stress locations and use the strongest glass in the smartphone industry.”

Samsung, on the other hand, is dogged by “gapgate.” Controversy was ignited by some netizens who companied that the gap between the screen and metal casing of the Galaxy Note 4 is too wide. A photo has emerged that shows a business card being placed inside the gap. A few service centers reportedly issued product exchange coupons.

A Samsung official remarked, “The Galaxy Note 4 is made and sold according to our quality control standards,” adding, “The phenomenon is irrelevant to the function and performance of the product.” When asked about product exchange, the official responded by saying, “If product exchange coupons are issued by service centers, even though those products met our standards, I think that those centers did so to satisfy customers.”
