Explosive Subscription

On Sept. 23, Kakao announced that the number of KakaoPay subscribers have exceeded 500,000 people, only 19 days after the launch of its mobile payment service.

As a KakaoTalk version of Bank Wallet, this service allows users to make a payment just by entering a password on a mobile device, after registering credit cards or check cards and payment passwords in an app on KakaoTalk.

After Kakao signed a contract with KB Kookmin Card on Sept. 22, Samsung Card also decided to participate. The two card companies are going to be involved in the mobile payments service as soon as they finish test trials.

To coincide with the launch of the service, Kakao started to hold events for subscribers, including free Kakao Friends emoticon giveaways. The messaging firm expects that more card companies will take part in its service, and that subscribers will increase in the future.
