Vaccination Pace the Third-slowest in the OECD

South Korea's pace of COVID-19 vaccination is the third-slowest in the OECD.

COVID-19 vaccination in South Korea is likely to slow down with the pace already slow. Of the 37 members of the OECD, South Korea is currently showing the third-slowest pace of COVID-19 vaccination.

The South Korean government halted the vaccination for those younger than 60 with regard to the possibility of thrombosis. An increasing number of AstraZeneca vaccine side effects are being reported worldwide, and this is likely to hinder the government’s efforts to speed up the vaccination in the second quarter and reach 12 million vaccinated persons by the end of June and herd immunity by November.

The health authorities are planning to decide whether to resume it on April 11. Both the authorities and the European Medicines Agency are focusing more on the benefit than on the risk and, as such, the process is likely to be resumed.

The health authorities’ target number for June 30 is 11,503,400. On the other hand, the doses scheduled to be imported on or before that date are for 7,698,5000 persons. Besides, the AstraZeneca vaccine accounts for no less than 4.55 million persons’ doses. Experts point out that less and less people may give their consent to the AstraZeneca vaccine and the government is yet to prepare a solution to that case.
