Yield of Rollable Panel Still Confidential

LG Signature OLED TV R

Market research firm Omdia said on April 6 that the annual rollable TV display shipments are estimated to exceed 3,000 units next year, reach 74,000 units in 2024, and amount to 672,000 units in 2027.

At present, LG Display is the only rollable panel supplier in the world. The company is producing 100 percent of its rollable panels in Paju. The Signature OLED TV R of LG Electronics is the world’s first flexible TV with a rollable screen and uses an OLED display panel with a thickness of 1 mm to 2 mm. Its display is thinner than any other and does not require a backlight unit. As a result, the TV itself can have various shapes, including a curved shape.

The yield of the rollable panel is still confidential. It is said that the yield of the company’s rigid OLED panel is over 90 percent. LG Electronics is said to have tested the durability of the panel by rolling it up more than 100,000 times. LG Electronics’ rollable TVs are produced only in Gumi.

The LG Signature OLED R made its global debut on April 1. The product is currently available in 15 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, Germany and France. Its price is 99,999 GBP and 99,999 USD in the United Kingdom and the United States, respectively. The product is available on a pre-order basis.
