For Robotaxi Unveiled by Zoox
GST Global GmbH, a subsidiary of Hyosung Advanced Materials, announced on March 16 that it has recently signed a contract to supply airbags for the robotaxi of Zoox Inc., an Amazon subsidiary specializing in self-driving cars.
The company will supply next-generation one piece woven (OPW) airbags through ZF Friedrichshafen AG, a global auto parts supplier, beginning in 2022.
The robotaxi unwrapped by Zoox in December 2020 is the first fully autonomous vehicle with a box-shaped body. This design is frequently used for purpose-built vehicles (PBVs) which can change the composition of their interior spaces depending on the purpose. Airbags for PBVs require new designs with scalability to meet free space designs. Hyosung Advanced Materials is the first company to supply airbags to fully autonomous PBVs.
