Alluto, an automotive electronics joint venture between LG Electronics and Luxoft, a Swiss software company, was launched in the United States on March 15 (local time). The new company will focus on the infotainment market for vehicles.

LG Electronics and Luxoft signed an agreement to establish a joint venture at CES 2020 held in Las Vegas in January last year.

Alluto plans to develop integrated infotainment systems for vehicles including head units and rear seat entertainment systems based on LG Electronics' WebOS Auto platform.

WebOS is a software platform that plays a key role in LG Electronics’ new businesses such as automotive electronics and software. The solution was developed based on Linux and allows easy application of new services and technologies. So WebOS used in various fields such as smart TVs, digital signage for vehicles, and smart home appliances.

LG Electronics is strengthening various cloud support for WebOS to evolve it from a traditional infotainment platform to an in-vehicle hub for connected car services.

With the launch of Alluto, LG Electronics will be able to complete its infrastructure as a general automotive electronics company. It acquired ZKW, a lighting system company for vehicles in 2018, and will establish a joint venture with Magna International, the world's third-largest automotive parts maker, in July.

Meanwhile, the automobile operating system market will more than double from US$4.5 billion in 2019 to US$12 billion in 2026, forecast market research company Global Market Insights
