SK Innovation and LG Chem Spend 1.3 Bil. Won for Lobbying in 2020

The Center for Responsive Politics said in its report on March 10 that SK innovation and LG Chem spent approximately 1.3 billion won for lobbying purposes in the United States last year with regard to their electric vehicle battery-related patent litigation and so on.

Specifically, SK innovation spent US$650,000 for that purpose in the United States last year. That of SK Group as a whole is US$4.1 million, including SK hynix America’s US$2.445 million. Last year, SK Group’s spending for that purpose increased US$1.75 million.

LG Group’s amount is US$652,000, consisting of LG Chem’s US$532,000 and US$120,000 from Zenith Electronics acquired by LG Electronics. The group’s spending for the purpose increased US$420,000 in 2020.

Hyundai Motor Group’s amount is US$1.31 million, including US$240,000 spent by Hyundai Motor Co. and Hyundai Steel. Those of POSCO, Hanwha and Hyundai Heavy Industries Groups are US$570,000, US$450,000 and US$200,000, respectively. Samsung Electronics’ amount is US$3.33 million.

By country, Russia spent US$41.15 million for the purpose last year, followed by Qatar (US$34.42 million), China (US$33.13 million), Japan (US$26.44 million) and South Korea (US$23.3 million).
