Launches a Consortium with Local Software Developers

Hyundai Mobis has launched a consortium with 13 software developers in Korea to localize platforms for automotive software development.

Hyundai Mobis has joined hands with 13 software developers in Korea to localize software platforms for vehicles.

Hyundai Mobis announced on March 7 that it has formed a consortium with Korean software developers such as LG Uplus, Hyundai Autron, Telechips, and Amosense to create a software development cooperation ecosystem.

Hyundai Mobis plans to expand the ecosystem with its partners and focus on fostering technical personnel. It will also expand cooperation to the fields of automotive semiconductors, which are in short supply globally, and the evaluation of automotive electronics.

The software platform to be developed by Hyundai Mobis and its partners is intended to standardize and modularize various automotive software systems. Just as a single hardware platform can be applied to multiple models, a software platform integrating diverse element technologies can be used for multiple models.

The cooperation fields are autonomous driving (recognition algorithm, AI computing), infotainment (web cloud service, recognition solution by the passenger, graphic solution), and platform standardization. All these areas are expected to create much added value in the future car market.

Hyundai Mobis will use an open platform method in research and development. Previously, partners supplied component technologies and Hyundai Mobis integrated them into products. In the future, Hyundai Mobis will provide a system platform, and partners will add software technologies. In the process, original intellectual property technologies owned by partner companies will be thoroughly guaranteed through confidentiality agreements. Hyundai Mobis expects this platform approach will increase the number of business partners that will participate.

Hyundai Mobis will set up a separate shared office near Seoul's Seonneung Station to provide a free work space for key workers from partner companies.
