Korea Gas Corp. (KOGAS) announced on March 3 that it has signed an MOU with Thai Petrochemical Industry Polene Power (TPIPP) and Korea Western Power to cooperate for Thailand's Songkhla Gas to Power (GTP) project.

An MOU signing ceremony was held online with the attendance of Park Young-kwon, head of the Convergence Business Headquarters at KOGAS, Han Sang-moon, head of the Business Headquarters at Korea Western Power and Prachai Leophairatana, chairman of TPIPP.

The Songkhla GTP project is aimed at building LNG terminals and power plants in Songkhla, a region in southern Thailand near the border with Malaysia. The Thai government designated the region as a special economic zone in 2016. TPIPP proposed joint project development to KOGAS.

Under this agreement, KOGAS plans to take charge of LNG supply and terminal construction and operation by utilizing its experience and know-how accumulated in domestic and foreign LNG projects. It will also take the lead in financing the project along with Korea Western Power. TPIPP will play the role of a project leader and take care of obtaining local licenses and approval.

TPIPP is a subsidiary of TPI Group which operates petrochemical plants, manufactures and sells construction materials. The company operates a total of 440 MW power plants in Thailand.
