The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of South Korea and the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology of the United Arab Emirates held their industry and energy cooperation forum on March 4.

At the forum, they signed MOUs for cooperation in the hydrogen economy and industrial technology development and discussed how to work together for renewable energy development and digital innovation and transformation.

The two ministers discussed how to expand their cooperation beyond their traditional cooperation for nuclear power plant construction, oil and gas, etc. “South Korea is moving ahead with Green New Deal projects and the UAE is pursuing its National Energy Plan 2050,” said South Korean minister Sung Yun-mo, adding, “Our cooperation can be expanded in various sectors, including new energy.”

The two countries’ MOU related to cooperation in the hydrogen economy covers hydrogen trade, relevant policy sharing, better communication between the two sides’ agencies in charge, etc. They also covered how to collaborate for digital innovation and transformation. The MOU to that end is expected to lead to bilateral policy collaboration channels to cover a variety of industrial sectors.
