Kakao Follows with 105 Subsidiaries

SK Group has the largest number of subsidiaries, 144, among Korea's 64 top business groups.

The Korea Fair Trade Commission announced that South Korea was home to 64 business groups and SK was the one with the largest number of subsidiaries, 144, as of Jan. 31. The commission also said that the group had no subsidiary in the financial and insurance sectors.

The runner-up is Kakao, which had six in the sectors and 99 in the other sectors as of Jan. 31. It was followed by IMM Investment (92), Lotte (85), Hanwha (80), CJ (80), GS (79), LG (68) and Taeyeong (62).

S-Oil is the business group with the smallest number of subsidiaries, two. GM Korea has three and both S-Oil and GM Korea have no subsidiary in the financial and insurance sectors. Also at the bottom of the list are HMM (four), Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (five), Celltrion (eight), KT&G (10), Kyobo Life Insurance (12), Dongkuk Steel (12), Kumho Petrochemical (12) and Samyang (13).

It is IMM Investment that has the largest number of subsidiaries in the financial and insurance sectors, 55 to be specific. It is followed by Mirae Asset (32 out of 37), Daou Kiwoom (28 out of 50), Korea Investment Holdings (24 out of 27), NH (24 out of 57) and Samsung (16 out of 59).
