Combined Value of Top 100 Companies Reaches 1,219 Tril. Won

The enterprise value of the top 100 market cap companies has increased sharply. 

The Korea CXO Research Institute announced on Jan. 7 that the enterprise value of the top 100 market cap companies increased from 983 trillion won to 1,745 trillion won from the first day of 2016 to the first day of 2021.

The combined value of the 100 South Korean enterprises reached 1,075 trillion won at the beginning of 2017 and 1,375 trillion won at the beginning of 2018. Although it fell to 1,094 trillion won on Jan. 1, 2019, it rebounded to 1,219 trillion won at the outset of last year.

As of the beginning of this year, Samsung Electronics’ common stock market cap was 495.492 trillion won, followed by SK Hynix (91.7283 trillion won), LG Chem (62.7566 trillion won), Samsung Electronics preferred stock (61.2228 trillion won) and Samsung Biologics (54.8508 trillion won). Naver, Celltrion, Samsung SDI, Hyundai Motor and Kakao followed them with 48 trillion won, 47 trillion won, 46 trillion won, 44 trillion won and 35 trillion won, respectively.

A total of 19 enterprises joined the latest list, including SK Biopharmaceuticals (29th), Big Hit Entertainment (51st) and Kakao Games (88th).

It is Shin Poong Pharm that showed the most rapid increase in market cap. Its aggregate market value soared from 387.9 billion won to 6,464.2 billion won in 2020 alone. Its ranking jumped from 417th to 46th as a result.
