BMW Popular with Young Car Buyers

BMW is the coveted brand among car buyers in their 20s and 30s in Korea in 2020.

The age group that purchased the largest number of imported cars last year was found to be those in their 30s.

Of the 243,440 imported cars sold in Korea until November 2020, a total of 154,501 vehicles were purchased by individuals, according to data released by the Korea Automobile Importers Association (KAIDA) on Jan. 3.

By age group, those in their 30s ranked first by purchasing 49,650 units, accounting for 32.1 percent of the total. People in their 40s came in second with 49,617 units (32.1 percent), slightly fewer than those in their 30s.

Those in their 50s accounted for 19.9 percent (30,672 units), those in their 60s 8.3 percent (12,858 units), those in their 20s 5.7 percent (8,766 units) and those in their 70s or older 1.9 percent (2,877 units).

Brand preferences varied from generation to generation. BMW was favorite among those in their 20s and 30s and Mercedes among those in their 40s and older.
