New Technology Likely to Enhance Network Security

ETRI has developed a network technology that can completely forestall cyberattacks.

The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) announced on Dec. 23 that it developed a network modification technology that can completely forestall cyberattacks.

The technique is characterized by adding confusion and causing mistiming by continuously changing a network address while a hacker sets a target and prepares an attack. The technique is expected to help enhance network security in that most cyberattacks are gradual and progressive.

According to the ETRI, the technique is nearly unprecedented worldwide, and it is the first commercial-level technology in the field of anti-cyber attack network address modification.

“The three cores of the method are physical-virtual network interworking, network tunneling and local network address translation,” the ETRI explained, adding, “The address modification detects and blocks not only external attackers but also a network intruder’s scanning and packing sniffing attempts for target setting.”

The ETRI already conducted demonstrations at colleges, cloud computing centers, and so on in order to further refine the technology, which was recently transferred to the private sector and is expected to become commercially available next year.
