The government is actively seeking to revitalize the ecosystem for smart media.

The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (MSIP) announced that a smart media innovation center in charge of supporting the ecosystem for smart media was opened on July 31.

The 264.464 m2 center is located on the 8th floor of the Korea Communications Agency in Seoul. There is a TV app test bed, space for nurtuing one-man media start-ups, a development room, and a conference room in the center.

Among these, a TV app test bed is equipped with set-top boxes of system operators (SOs) and IPTVs as well as the latest smart TVs, and thus it is possible to develop TV apps and test various smart media services.

The place was already designated as a business center for one-man companies by the Small and Medium Business Administration, and 11 media venture firms have moved into the center to start a company.

Representatives of enterprises related to media such as Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, KT, and GS Home Shopping, and relevant organizations attended the opening ceremony and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at cooperating with each other for the success of the smart media innovation center.
