A Vessel Equipped with Infectious Disease Mitigation Facilities

An official of Samsung Heavy Industries receives a certificate of approval in principle for infectious disease mitigation arrangement notation from a representative of ABS.

Samsung Heavy Industries has developed the world's first vessel design featuring infectious disease mitigation facilities.

The shipbuilder announced on Dec. 10 that it has obtained approval in principle (AIP) for infectious disease mitigation arrangement (IDM-A) notation from ABS, a U.S.-based ship classification organization.

Samsung Heavy Industries explained that it has developed a ship design that can prevent the spread of infectious diseases during ship operations. The ship has a negative pressure room, separate medical support and laundry facilities and a ventilation system that prevents infectious diseases from spreading.

Moreover, the design enhances space utilization by locating disease mitigation facilities in a cabin of the same size as that of existing vessels.
