Hanwha Solutions said on Dec. 3 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Gangwon Province and KOGAS-Tech to increase the competitiveness of the hydrogen industry ecosystem in Gangwon Province.

The agreement calls for the establishment of a water electrolysis facility and hydrogen charging station capable of producing 290 tons of hydrogen annually on a 1,488 square-meter site in Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon Province.

The green hydrogen production complex will be built with a total investment of 30 billion won. It will go into a commercial operation in the second half of 2022 and run for the next 15 years.

The project will be carried out jointly by the public sector and the public sector including the government. KOGAS-Tech will be in charge of overall construction and maintenance of the production facilities. Gangwon Province will provide land and wind power, while Hanwha Solutions will build green hydrogen production facilities.

In the meantime, the 290 tons of hydrogen will be used to power hydrogen buses, hydrogen trucks and hydrogen passenger cars through hydrogen charging stations. The amount can charge 130 units of the Nexo, a hydrogen model of Hyundai Motor, a day.
