An Overall Strike Looming Large

Unionized GM Korea workers have extended their partial strike until this week.

Unionized GM Korea workers have extended their partial strike until this week and are discussing an additional strike. An overall strike is looming large.

Until recently, the workers tried to have talks with the management while continuing with their partial strike. Early this year, the heads of the union attended the Trailblazer launching ceremony and shook hands with GM Korea president Kaher Kazem for the success of the product although hardliners in the union complained about the stance of the heads.

More recently, however, the heads changed their stance. The four-hour strike was limited to three days last week, but the union increased the number of days to four this week, from Nov. 17 to 20 to be specific. Another overall strike after last year is likely to occur if the negotiations between the two sides do not turn out well.
