The Korean government is planning to raise the number of electric vehicle (EV) chargers to 50 percent of the number of EVs by 2025.

The South Korean government is planning to raise the number of electric vehicle chargers to 50 percent of the number of electric vehicles by 2025. In South Korea, the numbers of electric vehicles and hydrogen vehicles topped 120,000 and 10,000 this year, respectively.

The government is going to increase the number of electric vehicle chargers 10-fold for five years to come. Specifically, slow and fast chargers will be increased from 50,000 to 500,000 units and from 9,000 to 15,000 units, respectively.

The government is aiming to resolve the driving range limitations of electric vehicles by expanding charging infrastructure, too. To this end, the number of fast chargers installed at 197 motorway service areas nationwide will be increased six-fold to 15 per charging station within five years.

When it comes to hydrogen vehicle charging stations, the number is scheduled to be increased from 72 to 310 by 2022 and then to 450 by 2025. Hydrogen vehicles can be refueled as quickly as gasoline and LPG vehicles and, as such, the effect of charger installation is substantial. The government is going to expand the infrastructure fast by utilizing existing facilities such as LPG charging stations.
