Samsung Electronics announced on Nov. 9 that its Eco Life Lab has been accredited as a microbial laboratory by TUV Rheinland, a global testing and certification agency in Germany.

The lab was certified in ISO 22196, which focuses on measurement of antibacterial activity on plastics and other non-porous surfaces, and ISO 846, which covers evaluation of the action of microorganisms.

The Eco Life Lab was set up in January this year. The lab aims to improve the health and hygiene-related emotional quality of products and remove the causes of odors, molds, and allergies caused by the use of products.

The Eco Life Lab hired experts with master's and doctorate degrees in microbiology and medicine to analyze and verify microbes. It also introduced a precise high-molecule analyzer, which can analyze up to one-trillionth of a gram of chemicals, and an organic material analyzer.

Samsung Electronics' Eco Life Lab is seeking solutions by analyzing the causes of odors, molds, and allergies by considering environments of end-users from the stage of product planning and establishing a process to verify microorganisms specialized for products.

The Korean tech giant is carrying out even microbial verification by opening Eco Life Lab in January 2020 after setting up Environmental Analysis Lab that analyzes harmful substances in May 2004.
