Daelim Industrial announced on Oct. 8 that it has signed a contract to construct the second section of the Marolos-Clark Railway Project (MCRP) in the Philippines.

A signing ceremony was held through a video conference system due to COVID-19. The project’s total construction cost is US$616.97 million. Daelim will establish a 50-50 joint venture with Acciona, a Spanish construction company, for the project.

The Philippine government is promoting a 163-kilometer-long north-south railway project that extends from Clark in the north to Calamba in the south via capital Manila. The Marolos-Clark Railway is the Philippines’ first wide-area high-speed railway linking Maloros and Clark in the north of Manila. The high-speed railway is 51.2 kilometers long and is divided into five construction sections.

Daelim Industrial will build the second section, which requires construction of a 15.8-kilometer-long overpass bridge and a station. The construction period is 48 months. When completed, the MCRP will cut the travel time between Manila and Clark to less than an hour, ease traffic congestions in the Manila metropolitan area and slash greenhouse gas emissions in the area.
