More than 560,000 5G users have switched back to LTE services since 5G services were launched in April 2019.

More than 560,000 Korean subscribers to 5G services have switched back to LTE services, according to data released by a ruling party lawmaker on Oct. 7.

The data obtained by Rep. Hong Jeong-min of the ruling party showed that a total of 562,656 5G subscribers have switched back to LTE services since the first half of 2019 when 5G services were kicked off.

The figure amounts to about 6.5 percent of the total 8,658,222 5G subscribers of the three Korean mobile carriers as of the end of August.

Users who purchased 5G service plans after receiving official subsidies or discounts on contracts with options have to undergo various inconveniences in order to go back to LTE plans. They switched back to LTE services despite such inconveniences.
