#RestoreOurFuture to Take Place on Sept. 2

The Korea Forest Service (KFS) will participate in a global digital event, called #RestoreOurFuture, on Sept. 2 to introduce Korea's forestation achievements.

The Korea Forest Service (KFS) will participate in a global digital event, called #RestoreOurFuture, which is to take place on Sept. 2 to celebrate the first milestone year of the Bonn Challenge, a global forest landscape restoration (FLR) movement.

The world’s largest 24-hour digital event on restoration is hosted by the Bonn Challenge Secretariat. The Bonn Challenge was launched in 2011 jointly by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the Germany government to bring 150 million hectares of degraded and deforested landscapes into restoration by 2020 and 350 million hectares by 2030. The online event is designed to celebrate the attainment of the 2020 goal.

The digital event will showcase the unprecedented restoration action that has been achieved over the last decade, across all time zones. During this 24-hour period an exciting program of live activity will launch, including: videos, new case study interviews and live panels.

The Korea Forest Service is planning to inform forest officials around the world of Korea's successful forestation experience and future forest policies. It will introduce Korea’s efforts to overcome the havoc wreaked by the Korean War through an interview with the head of the Korea Forest Service and various videos.

The KFS will also share Korea’s forest policies, including the Sixth Basic Afforestation Plan, and other future plans such as the Peace Forest Initiative (PFI) and the hosting of the World Forest Congress (WFC).

In addition, the KFS is preparing for interviews with forest-related people in various fields including officials of domestic civil society organizations (CSOs), private companies, international organizations and REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) projects. More details can be found following @IUCN_Forests  on Twitter and the #RestoreOurFuture hashtag.

The Korea Forest Service will be the first to appear on the show at the request of the IUCN and will introduce its achievements to the world for 80 minutes from 9 a.m. (Korean standard time).

The event will be held online for four hours online. Each country can share the status of their Bonn Challenge implementation efforts and major forest policies for one hour with officials from around the world through videos, photos, and real-time interviews.

Eighteen countries including Uzbekistan, Turkey, Kenya and the United States, and international organizations including the Asia Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO) and the IUCN will participate in the event to commemorate the Bonn Challenge’s achievements and speak about their forest restoration policies and experience.
