Inaugural Board Meeting to Take Place in September

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Corp. (KHNP) said they completed the registration of the envisioned Nuclear Plant Decommissioning Research Institute as a legal body on Aug. 27.

The institute will hold its inaugural board meeting in September this year. Construction of the institute’s building is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2021.

The institute will be launched as a public foundation funded by state-run organizations including KHNP. Its head office is located in Gijang County, Busan where the Gori Nuclear Power Plant Headquarters is located.

The board of directors has 16 members, including the chairman and president of KHNP which has the largest stake in the institute, officials from public institutions (KEPCO KPS, KEPCO Nuclear Fuel, KEPCO Technology), officials from the MOTIE and the local governments of Busan, Ulsan, North Gyeongsang Province, and Gyeongju, and those recommended by public institutions.
