Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Galaxy Note 20 series unveiled

Samsung Electronics (SEC) unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Galaxy Note 20 series at its first ever online show. The Z Fold 2 is the follow-up model to the Galaxy Fold, which was released in Sep 2019, and its detailed specifications are expected to be unveiled on Sep 1, when pre-orders start. The Note 20 series will begin pre-orders on Aug 6 and go on sale on Aug 21.

Regarding the hardware of the Z Fold 2, the front display has expanded from 4.6 inches (Galaxy Fold) to 6.2 inches, and the main display, which features ultrathin glass, has expanded from 7.3 inches (Galaxy Fold) to 7.6 inches. The bezels have become thinner through the adoption of a punch hole design, and the handset is only 6mm thick when unfolded, which is about 20% thinner than the previous model’s 7.5mm. The smartphone’s battery capacity has slightly increased to 4,500mAh. It is unclear at this stage where the waterproof and dustproof levels stand. The price has yet to be disclosed, but is expected to be around W2.3mn, similar to the previous model.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Note 20 series’ S-Pen touts a steep 80% reduction in latency relative to the previous generation. The price of the Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra will be around US$999 and US$1,299, respectively, based on 5G models.

Galaxy Z Fold 2 to record strong sales; pay attention to related parts makers

We believe that the Z Fold 2, which has no competitive product and can offer a unique user experience, will record sound sales—we forecast 2020 sales of 1.5mn~2mn units.

Among domestic parts makers, we recommend paying attention to KH Vatec (hinge), Segyung Hi-tech (protective film), Fine Technix (metal plate), BH Flex (RF-PCB), and Innox AMC (process materials).
