Samsung SDS has signed an industry-academia partnership agreement with Sungkyunkwan University to promote the university’s digital transformation.

Hong Won-pyo, president and CEO of Samsung SDS, and Shin Dong-ryeol, president of Sungkyunkwan University attended the signing ceremony at Samsung SDS headquarters on July 17.

Under the agreement, Samsung SDS and Sungkyunkwan University will cooperate in the following areas: cultivate new AI talent; promote joint research in new digital technologies; enhance university administration through Samsung SDS’s AI platform; and apply Samsung SDS’s Pro Data Scientist (ProDS) certification in data scientist training program.

The two parties will develop a training program for AI talent and conduct joint research to secure advanced technologies such as cloud.

Sungkyunkwan University plans to improve its administration through Samsung SDS’s Brightics AI platform that is based on big data analysis, and solutions such as Brity RPA, business automation solution, and SDS Cloud.

Moreover, Sungkyunkwan University will introduce ProDS, Samsung SDS’s data scientist training and qualification program, as the official university certification to proactively cultivate data scientists.

ProDS is a private qualification program for training data scientists jointly operated by Samsung SDS and its subsidiary, Multicampus, and the program was officially certified by the Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education & Training (KRIVET) last May.

Samsung SDS has been hosting Brightics Academy, an industry-academia cooperation program, with Sunkyunkwan University from 2018 to support various lectures and research on data analytics, machine learning, deep learning and data modeling.

“We will combine excellent research capabilities of our university with Samsung SDS’s advanced digital technologies to innovate the university’s education, research, and administration and to become a university that will globally lead AI,” Shin said.

“Samsung SDS will utilize its core technologies and platform capabilities to contribute to Sunkyunkwan University’s digital transformation,” Hong said. “We will work together to cultivate new talent who will lead the digital economy.”

Samsung SDS is actively leading industry-academia cooperation with many universities including Korea University and KAIST for joint research in new technologies. The company plans to continuously expand technical cooperation with universities.
