Korea Western Power and Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction signed an agreement on July 13 to jointly develop a next-generation Korean-style combined thermal power plant and work together to explore overseas markets for it.

The two companies also agreed to support small and medium-sized companies to develop technologies for equipment and materials and enter markets at home and abroad.

They plan to develop a high-efficiency and high-capacity gas-fired Korean-style combined thermal power plant (combined efficiency of 63 percent or higher) that can stack up against those by the world's three major powers — the United States, Germany and Japan — in the domestic and international power plant markets.

In a related development, Korea Western Power signed a contract with Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction in June to build Gimpo Combined Thermal Power Plant, which will be used to verify the proposed next-generation Korean-style combined thermal power plant. The Gimpo plant will use a Korean-made gas turbine for the first time. It is scheduled to be completed in June 2023. Korea Western Power will provide Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction with operational and technical information obtained through the operation of the Gimpo plant to help the latter successfully enter the next-generation Korean-style combined thermal power plant market.
