Pricing Is the Key

LG Electronics will launch its strategic smartphone LG Velvet on May 15. The new model will compete with diverse budget phones such as the Samsung Electronics Galaxy A Series and the Apple iPhone SE.

The LG Velvet is expected to retail for 890,000 won. As it is a mass premium phone located between premium phones and budget phones, LG will set its price at a level that will give it price competitiveness.

However, the new phone’s price is likely to go up when a dual screen and a stylus pen are added. With a dual screen, you can play a game on one screen and watch a video on the other. The company’s previous V series had a dual screen. At the time, it offered a dual screen worth 200,000 won for free or included it in a package. This time, the dual screen will be sold separately for around 200,000 won.

The stylus pen also makes the Velvet more versatile. It is also possible to watch a video lecture on one screen and write with the stylus pen on the other. LG Electronics will sell the stylus pen separately like the dual screen. The price is expected to hit 100,000 won.

Meanwhile, the LG Velvet has three cameras and a flash on the back. They look like water drops. The rear camera is loaded with three lens — one standard with 48 million pixels, an ultra wide lens with 8 million pixels and a depth lens with 5 million pixels. In particular, quad binning technology, which combines four pixels into one in a low-light environment, was applied to enable users to take clear pictures even in dark places.

When shooting a video, you can use the voice out focus function that can adjust background noises and voices separately. You can also use the ASMR (autonomous sensory meridian response) recording function.
