Employees at Top 500 Companies Earn 79.02 Mil. Won per Year

CEO Score announced on May 3 that the average annual salary of 318 South Korean companies’ employees was 79.02 million won last year, up 0.6 percent from a year ago. Specifically, 1,286,303 employees, not including unregistered executives, received a total of 100,210.5 billion won.

The 318 companies are classified into 22 industries. The average annual salary is 117.8 million won and 104.3 million won in financial holding companies and securities companies, respectively. They are followed by credit finance companies (92.8 million won), banks (92 million won) and IT, electrical and electronics companies (90.5 million won).

KB Financial Group employees posted an average of 133.4 million won, followed by Hana Financial Group (fourth, 122.8 million won), NH Investment & Securities (sixth, 120.5 million won), Korean Reinsurance Company (seventh, 119.2 million won), Orange Life Insurance (eighth, 115.6 million won) and KB Securities (ninth, 115.5 million won).

The top 10 also include SK Energy (second, 128.2 million won), SK Incheon Petrochem (third, 127.5 million won), SK Global Chemical (fifth, 122.7 million won) and SK Hynix (tenth, 113.8 million won).

A total of 33 companies posted an annual average salary of more than 100 million won. Each of the 33 companies is a financial or petrochemical company with the only exceptions of Samsung Electronics, Samsung SDS, SK Telecom and SK Hynix.

Still, the average annual salary of those working in the petrochemical industry decreased a lot last year. Specifically, it fell from 91.9 million won to 87.6 million won. This occurred in each of SK Energy, SK Global Chemical, SK Incheon Petrochem, S-Oil and GS Caltex, which are the top five of 2018.
