Individual Investors Lead Stock Market Recovery

The KOSDAQ index has shown the most rapid recovery, 39 percent, among major global stock markets since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The KOSDAQ index has shown the most rapid recovery, 39 percent, among major global stock markets since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and the KOSPI market has shown a recovery rate of 23 percent to come in third, the research center of Shinyoung Securities said on April 7.

During the same period, Russia’s RTS index has risen 28 percent, followed by the stock markets of Germany (13 percent), Taiwan (13 percent), Japan (12 percent), France (11 percent) and the United Kingdom (8 percent).

Market analysts say that such a rapid recovery of the South Korean stock market was led by individual investors. In the KOSPI market in particular, individual investors continued to buy stocks while foreign investors continued to sell stocks after the outbreak of the pandemic.
