Signing MOU with TDC to Enter Danish Market

uLikeKorea CEO Kim Heejin and Michael Stugaard of TDC shake hands after signing an MOU.

uLikeKorea, a Korean smart livestock healthcare management company, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Denmark’s largest telecommunication company TDC to launch the world’s first narrow band IoT (NB-IoT) biocapsule in Denmark.

The MOU signing ceremony was attended by Michael Stugaard, vice president of TDC's SMB Division, and officials from uLikeKorea, including CEO Kim Hee-jin, head of R&D Charles Park and head of Livecare Europe ApS Steve Kim.

Kim said, “The MOU with Denmark’s largest telecom company TDC follows an extensive cooperation with the Danish government and the establishment of our European office, Livecare Europe ApS. It is an important step in expanding our operations in Denmark.” She further stated that the MOU was particularly meaningful since Denmark has a premium market with over 1.5 million cows and will serve as a gateway for the company to enter the European market with over 90 million cows.

uLikeKorea has recently developed the world’s first NB-IoT biocapsule and will start a test project in the first half of 2020 at a dairy farm.

With the MOU, uLikeKorea (Livecare Europe ApS) and TDC will not only launch the capsule but also cooperate in creating new business opportunities. NB-IoT technology makes it possible to transmit and exchange data using minimum power and has high demand in B2B and public infrastructure projects.

TDC was created in 1882 and has over 7,000 employees serving around 6 million customers in the telecommunication field and has expanded its network capability to provide NB-IoT and other next-generation technology to link the suburbs and metropolitan areas.

Kim stated that through cooperation with TDC, uLikeKorea has completed the development of the NB-IoT biocapsule and identified the PoC farm. In addition, TDC and uLikeKorea plan to conduct additional R&D to develop other appropriate hardware and software, including data analysis, to contribute to the livestock management in Europe. Kim further stated that TDC and uLikeKorea will also examine other livestock animals such as pigs and create new business opportunities.

The NB-IoT capsule does not require additional equipment for installation and can be used immediately after being administered to livestock animals, thereby making it easier to expand. With strong foundation in original technology and robust overseas marketing and sales, uLikeKorea plans to achieve significant traction in the European market.

uLikeKorea recently established its European office (Livecare Europe ApS) after being approached by various European countries and conducted extensive discussions with government entities. In 2018, uLikeKorea also signed an MOU with Invest in Denmark/Copenhagen Capacity (a division of Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs). According to the official statistics, Denmark has over 1.5 million cows, 2,746 dairy farms and 3,362 meat farms.
