Samsung Electronics on March 6 launched its latest tablet PC in the local market that beefed up portability and reduced its weight.

The 8.4-inch Galaxy Tab Pro, which was unveiled at the US Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January, is powered by Android 4.4 Kitkat with a 4,800mAh battery, is 7.2 mm thin, and weighs 331g.

The device is an improvement from the 8-inch Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet released last year, which weighed 340 grams.

In particular, the WiFi-based tablet’s “Remote PC” feature allows users to access documents on other PCs using the device. Its “e-Meeting” feature lets them share screens during business gatherings. The Galaxy Tab Pro only comes in white, focusing on features suitable for offices and schools. The consumer price is 549,000 won (US$517.71).

Market researcher Strategy Analytics said that Samsung is expected to ship 14.6 million units of its tablet PCs in the first quarter of 2014 to take up 23.3 percent of the global market, further narrowing its gap with Apple, whose market share was estimated at 33.2 percent.
