A Blockchain Campus for Enhancing Research Capacity

Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) and Yonsei University plan to jointly set up a blockchain campus.

Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) and Yonsei University plan to make a blockchain campus together. POSTECH announced on April 2 that it will test operate a blockchain campus where all school members will participate. Yonsei University plans to operate the blockchain campus in the second half of this year.

The two schools plan to establish a blockchain-based system to secure leading research capacity in the field of blockchain technology, open a research center, organize curriculums, and link up with entrepreneurial programs.

In particular, POSTECH will run a blockchain-based group intelligence knowledge sharing system called Engram and a voting survey system called Voting for students. Engram is a blockchain-based system that allows students to share their knowledge and reward superior knowledge content with its own cryptocurrency called Neuron. Neurons can be used at school cafeterias.

Voting will be used for voting and student life survey based on blockchain technology that cannot be falsified or altered. In the future, the school plans to apply the blockchain system to student card and certificate issuance and donation management.

"The blockchain technology has innovative and destructive power to create a new concept industry," POSTECH president Kim Doh-yeon said. "It is meaningful that POSTECH and Yonsei University jointly design the future of core technology and establish educational and research foundations for future talent to prepare for the technology.”
