More Evolved Smart TVs

Samsung Electronics announced on December 22 that it will showcase its new 2014 voice and gesture-controlled smart TVs at CES 2014, the world’s largest consumer electronics show in Las Vegas, Nevada from January 7 to 10 next year.

Interactive voice recognition functions that understand natural language were supported only in 11 countries this year, but will be available in 23 nations next year, including 12 countries in Europe and growth areas. In particular, frequently-used functions were improved through an analysis of use patterns.

With more convenient voice search, all content that a TV offers can be searched for in one place. If information the about weather, stock market, or sports is asked while watching TV, it is displayed in a pop-up window at the bottom of the screen.

Thanks to an improvement in functions that recognize hand movement, hand gesture recognition functions are going to be added in Samsung’s new 2014 smart TVs. Users can change TV channels, control the volume, search for, and choose any content that they want using hand gestures. Turning a hand anticlockwise, for instance, enables intuitive operations such as returning to the previous page or the termination of video.
