New Airport in Era of 4th Industrial Revolution

KT has signed an MOU with Korea Airport Corporation (KAC) to build an ICT-based smart airport.

KT announced on September 17 that it has signed an MOU with Korea Airport Corporation (KAC) to build a smart airport based on information and communication technology (ICT).

Under the terms of the agreement, the two companies will cooperate to run strategic projects based on 4th Industrial Revolution technologies and build an ICT-based smart airport. Details of cooperation work include; IoT-based airport facility management, passenger guidance using artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, development of services that use augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), and strengthening the competitiveness of 5G and LTE-based future airport technologies.

KAC saw that there is a limit to service improvement through the expansion of airport facilities, as the number of airport users is continuously increasing. Accordingly, KAC made a smart airport master plan to which the core technologies of the 4th industrial revolution are applied based on its capabilities that have been accumulated from constructing, managing, and operating 14 airports in the country.

KT has various ICT competencies and experience that can be applied to smart airports, including 5G, IoT, big data, AI, and immersive media service. KT plans to apply these the airport's operational capabilities to increasing the efficiency of airport operations and provide high-quality passenger services.
